Fig. 11 - MoPS, the Mobile Solar Power Station.

MoPS is a space based mobile power plant carrying huge solar cell areas as a Solar Power Station ( SPS )
MoPS could deliver as well beamed energy were needed or be used as a smelting unit on asteroids or for space processing in free space.

Figure 11 shows a mobile SPS which is based on a Thruster Ring Spacecraft with an Outer Thruster Ring and an Inner Ring which allows docking, setting off, of a variable flightable module which is connected to the SPS with a Power cable.

The Outer Ring is because of itīs sheer size able to carry a lot of electric thrusters. Being a power plant, energy to use the electric thruster propulsion is there in abundance.

While the main unit generates power pointing with itīs solar cell arrays to the Sun, the center module unit can move freely to deliver the energy to another target / direction.

There are different modules (for instance laser, maser, electric plugs) possible, which all have in common to be able to move freely while connected through the power cable to the SPS. The power cable avoids converting the energy between module and main unit which saves a lot of energy. The idea to use a power cable has been already used through an American patent on a power producing solar sail were the sail cloth produces energy at the same time delivering that energy to a satellite. The new idea here is the docking ability and the crafts ability to act as a space craft.

MoPS - the Mobile Solar Power station - a free moving space power plant with changeable application module.

The graphic above shows just a bare Solar Power Station unit without thrusters and sail. It consists of the Outer Ring 1, holding in itīs center the Inner Ring 5 with a stringing of belts. Under the main unit on the right is the free flying module connected to it with the power cable 5.8.

The little graphic 2.1 downside left shows how the solar cell panels will be connected to the MoPS. The belts are held with plates 2.1.1 which get screwed to the solar panel backsides.

In this case the module unit could be carrying a laser for instance to smelt asteroid materials or ice or to send energy to an energy comsuming unit. It could also be a flying energy plug were other energy needing units just plug in.
